Beef marketing and Quality Assurance workshops
01 May 2015
With new brands and Quality Assurance programs continually popping up, beef marketing these days seems to be getting more confusing. To cut through the confusion, South East Local Land Services with AJM Livestock Solutions will be delivering two free beef marketing and Quality Assurance workshops.
The workshops will be held at Braidwood on Monday, 1 June and Crookwell on Tuesday, 2 June 2015 from 9.30 am to 3.00 pm.
Topics will include:
- Livestock Production Assurance (LPA)
- Meat Standards Australia
- Pasturefed accreditation schemes
- European Union cattle.
South East Local Land Services Livestock Officer Matt Lieschke said marketing beef is not as simple as it used to be.
"What we have now is a whole range of industry markets and options, all with their own specifications and requirements," Mr Lieschke said.
"While it's good to have these options, the difficulty now for a beef producer is working out which programs might suit their particular environment or production system, and which ones are likely to be the most profitable.
"Some programs are generating quite a bit of interest at the moment, particularly the grassfed segment with the major supermarkets offering their own grassfed branded range.
"We will be having a look at some of the major programs that are currently in place, their requirements, what sort of price premium producers can expect, associated costs and how to become accredited."
Alison Hamilton (nee McIntosh) of AJM Livestock Solutions said these workshops will provide an update on the main marketing and Quality Assurance programs, starting with LPA.
"Interestingly, a lot of producers don't realise what their obligations are under LPA," Ms Hamilton said.
"This will be covered at the workshop, including what records need to be kept and tips on how to prepare for an audit."
