South East Local Land Services delivering on the promise

One year into Local Land Services, the Board, management and staff of South East Local Land Services are making good progress towards building a strong platform to deliver the organisation's service delivery areas of productive agriculture, biosecurity, natural resource management and emergency management.

South East Local Land Services Chair, David Mitchell said the South East Board is focussed on achieving improved customer service standards, effective governance and decision making based on a strong understanding of local land management issues.

"This is important foundation work," Mr Mitchell said.

"It will contribute to, and ensure the long-term success of our organisation.

"The Board is also finalising the structure for the establishment of Community Advisory Groups.

"These groups will have a valuable role in providing advice to the Board on how South East Local Land Services can work with land managers to deliver locally relevant services.

"In Goulburn-Mulwaree having local staff working with local groups on grass-roots projects has been vital to delivering on-ground results.

"South East Local Land Services has been actively working with Tablelands Farming Systems (TFS) to support the profitability and sustainability of Tablelands graziers."

This partnership is delivering advice, training, seminars and field days to support local wool, beef and sheep meat producers.

TFS Chair, Tom McGuiness said through the TFS Soil Club Project, with support from South East Local Land Services, a member-based testing, recording, monitoring and reporting database is being established for Tablelands soils.

"The data will be used to determine soil fertility and related management practices and provide the foundations for soil benchmarking," Mr McGuiness said.

"This project will provide producers with information and strategies to support soil management plans and tools to calculate the best fertiliser applications for stock rates and pasture productivity.

"The support and assistance from South East Local Land Services has been invaluable. These TFS projects are being made possible through Local Land Services and will provide long-term benefits for local producers by helping them to be more profitable and productive."
