Southern Highlands seasonal update

South East Local Land Services and Bowral Co-op are inviting Southern Highlands sheep and cattle producers to attend a free information session about seasonal issues and opportunities for spring/early summer.

Local Land Services organises regular seasonal updates throughout the south east region to provide local producers and land managers with an opportunity to access information relevant to managing livestock and pastures.

Senior Land Services Officer, Geoff O'Connor said attendees have indicated they find these updates valuable and very practical.

"It's a great opportunity to hear first-hand from livestock health and pasture management specialists in an on-farm format," Mr O'Connor said.

"District Veterinarian, Bill Johnson will provide a livestock health update with a focus on sheep and cattle problems to look out for as summer approaches.

"Livestock Officer, Matthew Lieschke with livestock agent Jim Hindmarsh will update attendees on cattle marketing and comment on the local market moving into 2016.

"Pasture specialist, Fiona Leech will discuss key nutrients that drive pasture systems and the factors to consider when choosing a fertiliser for use on pastures.

"Spring is the perfect time for soil testing and this update will include an optional demonstration on correct soil sampling technique."

The seasonal update will be held from 9.30 am to 12 noon on Thursday, 5 November at 'Ebbwvale', 379 Woodlands Road, Woodlands with morning tea provided.
