Time is running out to enrol for 2017 Local Land Services elections
20 March 2017
Local Land Services ratepayers are being urged to enrol to vote in this year’s May elections.
Ratepayers in the South East region will vote to elect three local board members on the local board.
If you pay Local Land Services rates, you’re eligible to vote. By casting your vote you are helping to ensure that we have local people on our board, who understand our local community and who can provide input based on local knowledge and experience.
South East Local Land Services Acting General Manager, Ken Garner said one ratepayer from each holding could vote in the 31 May elections, but they must enrol first to receive ballot papers at election time.
“Time is running out to enrol to vote in the 2017 elections with the electoral roll closing on Friday 31 March,” Ken said.
“We are focused on making this process as easy as possible for our ratepayers and have introduced easy online methods of enrolling, nominating and voting.
“We have introduced online voting to streamline the process for enrolled ratepayers to have a say about who from their region sits on local boards.
“All enrolled ratepayers will receive voting instructions either via email for online voting or a postal ballot material pack for those enrolled electors without email contact.”
People who receive email voting instructions will be able to opt to receive postal ballot papers.
Ken said it was an exciting time for South East Local Land Services and 2017 would bring with it refreshed local boards who would strive to meet the objectives of the South East Local Strategic Plan.
“We are also calling for candidate nominations, which close at 12 pm on 10 April,” Ken said.
