Wild dog coordinator announces next step

Tim Shepherd, South East Local Land Services’ Wild Dog Coordinator, has announced the next step in wild dog management in the South East.

Tim will be hosting workshops for five of the 13 existing wild dog management groups in the South East in order to review the current plans and establish a path forward.

“The wild dog management plans are a really important tool in managing the risks posed by wild dogs in the South East” Tim said.

“These are cooperative agreements, developed between private and public land managers and look at how we can work together to manage dogs on a local level

“Each plan is tailored for the needs of the area and as such relies on local participation – they are real collaborative efforts”.

The plans operate for five years, in that time there have been legislative changes which means that the plans will need to be reviewed and updated to stay relevant to the needs of public and private land managers today and into the future.

Initially five plans will be reviewed; Bombala/ Far South Coast 7 November, Thredbo/Ingebyra 16 November, Corrowong/Tombong/Merriangaah 20 November and Shannons Flat/Bredbo/Michelago 28 November.

A workshop for the East Monaro/Central South Coast plan will also take place, but a date and location have not yet been confirmed.

“Everyone is welcome to attend and we’re hoping that we will get a good turn up to the workshops” Tim said.

“These are local plans and need local knowledge and input if they are going to be effective”.

Workshop details can be found on the South East Local Land Services website. To RSVP or find out more about the events contact the Local Land Services office in Cooma on 02 6452 1455.
