Women in grazing to gather in Gunning

South East Local Land Services will be hosting the 2018 Women in Grazing event in Gunning on Friday March 2. The event will follow the theme Succession, Transition and Communication and will feature guest speakers Lyn Sykes and Darren Secomb.

“The aim of the day is to help women on the Southern Tablelands get a better understanding of how they can start the process of deciding the future of their families and agribusinesses.” said South East Local Land Services Senior NRM Advisor and event organiser Annelies McGaw.

“Succession has been identified as one of the major risks to Agribusiness in Australia and succession planning and transitioning within family agribusinesses can be really challenging.

“These can be difficult conversations to have, but the best decisions come from everyone having the same information and a clear understanding of individual and business goals and aspirations. This event will help participants get a better picture of how to start the process and where to go to seek further help.”

Lyn is a family meeting facilitator and will be able to share her experiences in working with rural families and how she helps them plan for the future of their families and agribusinesses.

Darren is a succession facilitator and farm consultant who works with families to host discussions and establish clear lines of communication that help build strategic and succession plans.

The 2018 event, made possible by funding from the Australian Government’s National Landcare Program, follows the success of the inaugural Women in Grazing event held in Crookwell in 2017.

As with last year children are welcome to attend and $5 donations will be collected in support of Gunning District Community and Health Service.

The 2017 event raised $205.00 which was donated to the Upper Lachlan Youth Council’s “Why it’s great to be alive” project, which will contribute to the funding of a social worker at the Wellness Centre at Crookwell Hospital.
