South East Local Land Services welcomes two new board members
04 April 2019
South East Local Land Services recently welcomed two new board members to replace foundation board members Ian Denney (Grabben Gullen) and David Mitchell (Delegate).
Acting Chair Allison Harker thanked Ian and David and welcomed the new members to the board.
“David, as the founding Chair, and Ian as a founding board member were both instrumental in putting us in the strong position we find ourselves in now” said Allison.
“We recently celebrated the five year anniversary of Local Land Services and during that time both David and Ian worked tirelessly to advocate for the interests of the South East region while providing strategic direction to the organisation.”
The two new board members are Fay Steward (Bega Valley) and Bunja Smith (Batemans Bay).
“Fay and Bunja bring a depth of experience, diverse perspectives and a coastal view to the board”.
Fay has had a long career across both the public and private sectors focusing on strategic land use policy and business planning. Fay has worked with many community based organisations to establish co-operative agreements to manage parks and reserves with intrinsic natural and cultural values.
Bunja identifies as a Walbanga and Murramerang man from the greater Yuin nation and is a recognised Aboriginal Elder in his south coast community. Currently he is the Chair of the Aboriginal Legal Service NSW & ACT and has recently been elected Chair of the Biamanga National Park Board of Management.
“We welcome them both and believe that our board is ready and able to meet the challenges and expectations that will face South East Local Land Services and our communities and partners in the future.”
The new board members began their positions in late March and have been engaged on four-year terms. They join Ken Baxter (Robertson), George Merriman (Boorowa), Mac Wilson (Grabben Gullen), Stuart Burge (Numeralla) and Acting Chair Allison Harker (Yass) on the board.
