Tools, training and technology - supporting Landcare in the South East

While volunteer and landholder passion are the lifeblood of Landcare, they are greatly helped along by a few well selected resources.

South East Local Land Services has been working with the NSW Landcare Support Program to roll out the Landcare Support Resources project in the region. This project funds small scale resources for Landcare groups including training, tools and communication materials.

"It is often the small, necessary items that are the hardest to fit into a grant application" said Land Services Officer Megan Rowlatt. Megain works in the Illawarra, where the project has helped 25 active Landcare groups top up on the tools of their trade - secateurs and herbicide.

In the Eurobodalla, Landcarers have been able to draw matching investment from Eurobodalla Shire Council to purchase a long-desired information trailer to use at field days and other events.  Other networks to receive resources through the project were Upper Snowy Landcare, Far South Coast Landcare, Wingecarribee Landcare and Bushcare Network and Bowning Bookham Landcare.

A total of $10,000 was provided by the NSW Government to purchase necessary resources including tools, training and communications materials.  Landcare groups across the region were invited to put forward an expression of interest in the receiving funding for items their group or network would use in their landcare work.
