Dealing with dry conditions
December 2017/January 2018
As we have had a run of relatively good conditions over the past few years land managers may not be aware of the shift in focus in the NSW Government’s Drought Strategy. I’d encourage you to take the time to have a look over the strategy and also to look at the NSW DPI’s Drought Hub, which provides links to the resources available to land managers.
Late last year, in response the dry winter and slow start to Spring, the Palerang team hosted a ‘dry conditions’ workshop in Braidwood.
Local Land Services staff covered a range of topics on the day, with assistance from former DPI Livestock Officer Greg Meaker, including:
- supplementary feeding
- pasture management
- stock water management
- animal health considerations.
While there was a good response and the event was well attended we realise that not everyone could make it, so if you have any questions or concerns about conditions in your area and what support we can offer please contact your nearest Local Land Services office.
